About the Department
The Department of Cybersecurity Engineering addresses one of the most urgent challenges of the digital age: protecting critical infrastructure, sensitive data, and essential services from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. As Iraq’s digital economy and e-government services expand, the demand for skilled cybersecurity engineers has never been greater.
The curriculum covers network security, cryptography, ethical hacking and penetration testing, digital forensics, secure software development, cloud security, and incident response — providing both theoretical depth and hands-on practical skills through dedicated security labs.
Graduates are equipped to protect organisations across every sector — from banking and telecommunications to oil infrastructure, healthcare, and government — making this one of the most in-demand engineering specialisations in Iraq and globally.
Vision & Mission
Vision
To be Iraq's foremost cybersecurity engineering department — producing skilled, ethical security engineers who safeguard the nation's digital infrastructure, advance cybersecurity research, and contribute to a safer digital future for Iraq and the region.
Mission
To deliver a rigorous, hands-on cybersecurity engineering education grounded in both offensive and defensive security disciplines — equipping graduates with the technical depth, ethical judgement, and professional skills to protect Iraq's critical systems and digital assets.
Objectives & Goals
- ✓Provide deep grounding in network security, cryptography, and secure communication protocols.
- ✓Develop practical skills in penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and ethical hacking methodologies.
- ✓Train students in digital forensics, incident response, and cybercrime investigation techniques.
- ✓Equip graduates with secure software development principles, code review, and application security testing.
- ✓Foster research into threats targeting Iraq's critical infrastructure, ICS/SCADA security, and national cybersecurity.
- ✓Build a dedicated cyber range and security laboratory for realistic threat simulation and red/blue team exercises.
- ✓Develop awareness of cybersecurity law, regulations, privacy frameworks, and professional ethics.
- ✓Prepare graduates for internationally recognised certifications: CEH, OSCP, CISSP, and CompTIA Security+.

A Message from the Head of Department
Every hospital, power plant, bank, and government agency in Iraq depends on digital systems that must be protected. Cybersecurity is not a niche specialism — it is a critical national priority. Our department was built to meet that challenge head-on, producing engineers who understand how systems are attacked and, more importantly, how to defend them. We train our students to think like attackers so they can protect like defenders. The threat landscape is constantly evolving, and so are we. I welcome students who are motivated by the challenge of keeping Iraq’s digital future secure.
