About the Department
The Department of Biomedical Engineering applies engineering principles to medicine and biology, developing technologies that improve patient care, advance medical diagnosis, and support the healthcare system. It is one of the most socially impactful engineering disciplines, directly contributing to human health and wellbeing.
Students study biomechanics, medical imaging, biosensors, medical device design, biomaterials, rehabilitation engineering, and clinical engineering — gaining the multidisciplinary knowledge needed to work at the intersection of engineering and medicine.
With Iraq’s healthcare system undergoing significant development, Biomedical Engineering graduates are in growing demand across hospitals, medical device companies, government health agencies, and research institutions.

A Message from the Head of Department
Biomedical engineering is a discipline born from the conviction that engineering can save lives. Every medical device, every diagnostic imaging system, every prosthetic limb represents the work of engineers who chose to apply their skills to the most human of purposes. Our department instils that sense of purpose alongside rigorous technical training. Iraq’s healthcare system needs skilled biomedical engineers urgently, and our graduates are answering that call. I am proud of what we have built here and excited about what our students will go on to achieve.
