🌱 Building Research Capacity

Three of our nine departments are newly established and have not yet catalogued published output. Their faculty are currently developing research programmes, and publications will be listed here as they appear.

Research Themes

Our Areas of Focus

🏗️

Infrastructure & Construction

Structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, and construction materials research supporting Iraq's reconstruction and built environment.

🛢️

Energy & Petroleum

Reservoir engineering, drilling optimisation, refining processes, and petrochemical production for the country's most critical industry.

💻

Computing & Digital Systems

Embedded systems, computer architecture, network engineering, and applied computing across industrial and civil contexts.

🏛️

Architecture & Urban Planning

Sustainable architectural design, urban development, and the theory and practice of shaping liveable built environments.

🔒

Cybersecurity

Network defence, digital forensics, and security architecture — an emerging area as Iraq's critical digital infrastructure expands.

🌍

Sustainability & Environment

Cross-cutting work on environmental protection and sustainable practice, in line with the college's commitment to responsible engineering.

How We Support Research

A Culture of Inquiry

Scientific research is one of the seven strategic pillars set out in the college's goals. We support and encourage applied research that is linked directly to community needs and national development plans, rather than research pursued in isolation from the problems Iraq actually faces.

That commitment runs in two directions. We work to raise the level of scientific output and publication in reputable journals, and we work to promote a culture of research and innovation among students and faculty members alike — so that inquiry is part of the everyday academic environment, not a separate activity reserved for a few.

Faculty who publish bring current developments straight into the lecture hall, and senior students are drawn into that work through supervised projects and co-authorship.

🔬

Applied Research Priority

Research directions tied to community needs and national development plans across the engineering disciplines.

📄

Publication Support

Encouraging output in reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journals and international conference proceedings.

🧪

Equipped Laboratories

Purpose-built departmental labs giving researchers and students access to the tools of professional practice.

🌐

Academic Partnerships

Scientific partnerships with local and international universities and research institutions, plus academic exchange.
